Balalbidhi Printed Everyday Essential Tee
Featuring original Aboriginal artwork by Tania Hartigan, the Balalbidhi Tee brings one of our most recognisable artworks into an everyday piece.
Designed by us and printed in Australia, the tee features the three fish from the Balalbidhi artwork across the front, telling a story of drought, water and the changing conditions we experience on Country.
About Balalbidhi
Balalbidhi means "big dry" in Gamilaraay language.
The artwork was created by Tania Hartigan and reflects the long periods of drought experienced around our home in regional NSW, and the impact changing water conditions have on Country.
The three fish show the progression of drought. They move from a whole fish, to one beginning to deteriorate, and finally to a skeleton, representing what happens as waterways shrink, dry out and can no longer sustain the life that depends on them.
But even the first, healthy fish has its skeleton visible beneath the surface. This is a reminder that we are never truly safe from drought. Even when the rivers are flowing, the dams are full and Country is looking healthy, the next dry period will come. Living on Country means understanding that cycle, being careful with the water we have and preparing for the dry years while conditions are good.
Balalbidhi is about that relationship with water and drought. Our creeks and rivers can change dramatically from one season to the next, and the artwork reminds us not to take the good years for granted.
The Balalbidhi artwork was featured as part of Marayn Menswear's Scorched Lines collection on the Country to Couture runway in 2026.
