About Ka Wul

Guardian of the Hunter Valley, Ka Wul is a Wonnarua design created by Kerri‑Ann ‘KEZ’ Taggart, a proud Wonnarua woman whose art is deeply connected to the Country she was raised on.

Inspired by the wedge tailed eagle, the design reflects her relationship with the Hunter Valley and the Creator Spirit who formed its ridges, waterways and sandstone stories.

As a Wonnarua woman, KEZ carries a strong cultural presence in her work. The eagle has always felt like a guide to her, a being that moves between the physical and spiritual worlds. Its flight across the valley reminds her of the knowledge held within Wonnarua Country and the ancestors who continue to watch over their people. Ka Wul captures that feeling. Each stamped mark is placed with intention, echoing the movement of the eagle and the protection it offers to those who walk respectfully on the land.

The design honours the Creator Spirit of the valley, the strength of Wonnarua culture, and the living connection KEZ holds with her Country. Ka Wul stands as a guardian, a reminder that culture is carried forward through story, art and the spirit of the land itself.
