About Balalbidhi

Balalbidhi (Big Dry) is inspired by the natural cycle of drought on Gamilaraay Country. Created by Tania Hartigan, the design reflects the experience of watching waterways recede after years of heavy rain and finding fish left stranded as the water disappeared. The three fish represent different stages of decay, each revealing the skeleton beneath as a reminder that even in loss, life continues through nature's cycles. In Gamilaraay, Balal means dry and -bidhi is a descriptive suffix meaning big, together meaning Big Dry.
